summer guide: stay covered, cool, chic!

1. a lot of people complain about sun block, but today so many skin care products have at least some spf. my favorite is the aveeno positively radiant moisturizer. it has a really lightweight feel and a nice smell, and it's small enough to carry around with you!

2. a big tote is a must! make sure to include a refillable water bottle, as staying hydrated is essential. favorite magazine or a book are nice too so you don't get too bored. as a blanket, i used a vintage scarf that i LOVE but never wear because it's too slippery. it's silk so it doesn't get hot or sweaty.

3. with so many stylish hats out there, there's no excuse to not be wearing one. protect your scalp and face, and not to mention your hair color!

4. do i even need to mention sunglasses? isn't everyone wearing them the instant it gets sunny out anyway? but the skin around your eyes is really delicate, it's best to preserve it now, rather than fight the early wrinkles later.

5. this is the part that most people hate, but thanks to current trends, is easier than ever. you really need to keep the majority of your body covered. unless you're in the water at the beach, try and wear some kind of "protective clothing." doctors always say that and it sounds like they're telling you to wear a life jacket. but, there are so many sheer tops out there and just throw them over your suit! easy, protective, and you get the added bonus of sporting the big peekaboo underwear trend, without feeling over exposed. free people is a great place to get some summer weight, sheer tops that will still allow you to gain a healthy bit of color, but block a lot of harmful rays.

of course, this is stuff we all know, again with the smoking analogy. but, in the end it's up to you to make healthier choices, something i am really committing to this summer (just ignore the arnold palmer tall boy in the photo haha).

me today in the park! between the crap quality of my blackberry camera, the hat, and the sunglasses this reminds me of some kind of crime show photo.
